From pumpkin drawing challenges to haunted art galleries, these fun Halloween activities will keep children engaged and entertained throughout the spooky season.
Why Halloween Crafts Are Great for Child Development
Creative activities help children build confidence, improve hand-eye coordination, and develop essential artistic skills. Activities like cutting, folding, colouring, and gluing are ideal to support these areas of development. With the added fun of Halloween involved, creating spooky themed crafts is a great way of keeping kids happy and engaged while developing valuable creative and motor skills.
Check out our list of scary, spooky, and spine-chilling Halloween craft activities!
1. Halloween Pumpkin Drawing Challenge
This is a fun way of planning out what you’d like to carve into your pumpkin! Encourage your children to draw their own funny faces, spooky scenes, or favourite Halloween characters. The aim of this challenge is to be as creative as possible!
All you’ll need is our Oxford A4 Mix Media Pad, Pelikan Colouring Pencils, and Colorella Star Fibre Tip Pens. If your children are a little younger, our Griffix Ergonomic Colouring Pencils, Combino Felt Tip Pens and Pencils, and Griffix Ergonomic Crayons are also perfect for this challenge.
Kids can begin with pencil sketches before adding bright autumn colours and spooky details with fibre tip pens. This activity is ideal for children of all ages and can be turned into Halloween wall decorations once finished. Make sure you grab a photo of your final pumpkin design so you can compare!

Top Tip: Turn this activity into a family competition and vote for the spookiest pumpkin design.
2. Make Your Own Halloween Masks
Have you got a Halloween party coming up? Or maybe you’re planning the perfect Trick-or-Treating route? If that’s the case, creating part of their own Halloween costume is a fun way to get kids more involved in the celebrations. Making masks is an easy, spooky activity which really lets children’s imagination run wild! From witches and wizards, to monsters, ghosts, and vampires, mask making can be as messy or detailed as you’d like.
Firstly, draw the outline of a mask shape in our Oxford Sketch Pad or Mix Media Pad, and cut it out for your child to start colouring. They can use anything from pens, pencils, crayons, and paints for their monstrous creations. Our Pelikan Finger Paints are particularly suited for this activity with bright, vibrant colours but easy to wash off fun.
Top Tip: Add watercolour details with the Pelikan K12 Watercolour Paint Box for extra spooky effects.
3. Spooky Window Art
Perfect for that final touch to your decorations! All you’ll need for this is our Pelikan Window Markers and a glass window ready to draw on. There are 8 vivid colours in each pack, perfect for some chilling and frightful designs!
Some suggestions to get you started are decorating your windows with bats, spiders, pumpkins, and ghosts to really bring the Halloween spirit into your home. Try to use as many colours as possible to brighten up the scene.
The great part about these is that your kids won’t need to worry about making any mistakes, as the ink is easily wiped away using a dry cloth. This is an activity you could re-do over and over again, updating your designs every day to another spine-chilling scene. Lots of fun to be had at any time!
Top Tip: if you’re planning on writing any words, make sure your letters are backwards so they can be read the right way from the outside.

4. Create a Haunted Halloween Art Gallery
Set up a mini gallery at home featuring children's Halloween masterpieces. Perhaps they could create an eerie haunted house, a moonlit pumpkin patch, or friendly Halloween characters using Pelikan Watercolour Paints? The idea of this activity is to let the kids be as creative as possible with their ideas to allow them to get used to painting. Once completed, display the artworks as a festive Halloween exhibition.
The Pelikan K12 Watercolour Paint Box, Pelikan Paint Brush Set, and Pelikan Water Container are all you need for this creative activity. For younger children, the Griffix Paint Brushes and Pelikan Finger Paints are also ideal for this kind of artistic fun.
Top Tip: Create award categories such as "Scariest Creation", "Funniest Monster", and "Best Use of Colour".
